Chronotopia

Hey everyone! Happy Fri-YAY!

I am not sure about you all, but I am really looking forward to the weekend. Weekends for me are a great time to cook complicated meals, go to Total Wine and More to get a new red blend I haven’t tried, and hang out with the family.

Last month I read an article in Maison & Objet about Chronotopia, which is quickly becoming a bigger topic of conversation for designers and architects. In short, it’s how people are making spaces multi-use depending upon the time of day or activity. This rise in trend was rapidly accelerated with the appearance of COVID. As it relates to hotels and empty workspaces, this definitely can help with repurposing space, but I see it as a huge trend in residential design.

Thinking through how you will have a workspace at home, as well as a school room for your kids, many of our homes have all needed to “adjust” to accommodate this. But what if our spaces were designed initially to adjust in activity shifts? Not just a knee-jerk reaction or a temporary solution. Many may disagree, but I feel strongly that 2020 and our social distancing will change us for the long haul, and our homes may become a haven for many things we didn’t have a place for prior to 2019.

Anyway, check out the article by clicking the image above and let me know what you think!!!!

xoxo—Ann
