Movie Night!

Hello Friends! I hope you’re having a relaxing weekend! We have snow, and it’s the perfect time to curl up on the sofa and watch a movie!

Since the pandemic, movie night has shifted from what it once was—— going to the movie theatre, eating popcorn, and then on the car ride home, discussing the movie you had just seen. Now, it’s all about making your family room as cozy and comfortable as possible, and adding in that weighted blanket! Here are some tips and suggestions for things to amp up the comfy factor.

Step 1: make sure you buy a deep sofa.

Having an overall depth in the range of 46” is key. This is because it gives you a decent amount of room to put your feet up in front of you (in case the sofa is filled up with your kids and family). Many manufacturers now are making deeper sofas, so it is not as hard to find. I own Crate and Barrels Lounge II and it has the perfect depth for curling up!

Step 2: see if you have room for a sectional

Let’s just be real, no one wants to sit in the side chair when it’s movie night. Everyone wants to fight for the best spot on the sofa. And the best way to make sure everyone gets a good spot is to get a sectional. Make sure your living space has the room to fit one and allow for at least 3 feet of walking space if it hits up a corridor or adjacent room. While I do love the look of a sectional with a chaise, if this sofa is for the casual relaxing living space, get the sectional with a back. The Restoration Cloud sofa has great sectional options for creating different layouts for your space— I suggest going with the luxe depth for maximum comfort.

Step 3: Get a durable coffee table

For this type of space, expect food and drinks to spill, feet to land, and things to bump into it. There are many different ways around this, however. If you plan to put your feet up and want this to be another extension of “cushion”, you may want to get an upholstered ottoman. And for this type of use, I strongly recommend leather that weathers and ages with you. Leather does truly, for the most part, stand the test of time, especially ones that soften with use. If you need a place to set food, games, and drinks, go for a sturdy wood table that has a bit of texture to it— this way it hides scratches. And if you want both—- get an upholstered ottoman and utilize larger trays that you can set on top of it!

Step 4: get a weighted blanket

I know, we have all seen the countless adds, and these things are expensive!!! But let me tell you, they are so worth it!!!! They make you feel safe, secure, calm, and truly relax you!! It’s like someone is giving you a hug, without worrying if they have covid! So many have written articles on the benefits, and here is a great one from the New Yorker. See the link below from the blanket that GOOP recommends by Baloo.

I hope I have inspired you to have a cozy movie night tonight! Enjoy!

xoxo—Ann
